The Amazon S3, EC2, and SQS web services provide the foundation of storage, computation, and messaging necessary to build Internet-scale distributed systems, and are cheap and easy to provision to boot. We'll quickly review the concepts and architecture, then assemble a collection of off-the-shelf components into a video upload and transcoding service, common infrastructure for social networking sites.
